In Ireland, personal injury claims (with the exception of injuries arising from medical negligence) must first be submitted to the Injuries Board before court proceedings can commence.

The Injuries Board is an independent government body that assesses the amount of compensation due to a person who has suffered a personal injury. The Injuries Board does not hear cases but deals with matters where there is no dispute of liability. The Board can, if the defendants agree, carry out an assessment of the claim and make an award of damages accordingly. This allows a claim to be resolved without the higher costs and greater time involved in a court case.
We can submit your claim to the Injuries Board and will advise you on the stages of the process involved and discuss any settlement discussions that might take place during the process. However, claims in which the defendant refuses to deal with the Injuries Board, or in which neither party is satisfied with the settlement, will advance to court and legal proceedings will begin.
